- naturalism
- in Film the treatment of forms, colours, space, etc. as these appear or might appear in
nature; Cf. idealism and realism.
- negative image
- the reversing of the light and dark in a photograph so the lights are dark and the darks
are light
- neorealism
- an Italian filmmaking movement of the 1945-1955 period
- new wave or nouvelle vague
- a group of French filmmakers in the late 1950's, the best known of whom were Francois
Truffaut, Jean-Luc Goddard, and Alain Resnais.
- non-synchronous sound
- the sound and the image are not recorded together (for example, the musical score of a
film)
