neorealism: an Italian filmmaking movement of the 1945-1955 period
new wave or nouvelle vague: a group of French filmmakers in the late 1950's, the best known of whom were Francois Truffaut, Jean-Luc Goddard, and Alain Resnais.
non-synchronous sound: the sound and the image are not recorded together (for example, the musical score of a film)
