Saugeen Shores Doubling Housing Allowance Program Contribution

Saugeen Shores is expanding its contribution to the Bruce County Municipal Housing Allowance Program to support housing stability. On Monday, April 15th, council approved a commitment to increase annual contributions by the Town of $75,000 for an annual commitment to the program of $150,000. Mayor Luke Charbonneau says, “The Town’s increased contribution and on-going support of this program reflects its continued commitment to advancing housing affordability and stability for all residents.”...

BRA Reminding Residents to Not Throw Batteries in Garbage Bins

The Bluewater Recycling Association is reminding residents of items to not be throwing into their garbage bins for collection. An incident from a few weeks ago occurred with $20,000 in truck damage when disposal vape sticks were thrown in the garbage bin. The BRA says batteries and other flammable material must not be put in the garbage for collection. The vape battery exploded while in the truck and caused a fire....

A section of Highway 21 has reopened near Tiverton after a two-vehicle collision this morning. The OPP say there were minor injuries in the crash at Highway 21 and Concession 2. Emergency services were called to the scene....

Kincardine To Uphold Rules, Mobility Scooters Not Allowed To Use Bike Lanes

Kincardine council has decided to maintain the status quo when it comes to mobility scooters and bike lanes. The recommendation was to keep everything as-is, and that mobility scooters were not allowed to use bike lanes within the municipality because of safety concerns. Adam Weishar, who is the Director of Infrastructure and Development, says that according to the Highway Traffic Act, mobility scooters are defined as pedestrians, and should therefore use sidewalks when available....

Home Sales Down Across the Region for March

Home sales was down massively across the area last month when compared to the same time last year. The Realtors Association of Grey-Bruce-Owen Sound says home sales totaled 197 units last month, down 12.1 per cent from March 2023. Home sales were 21.6 per cent below the five year average for the month of march....

Kincardine Council Looks For Report On Crosswalk Accessibility

The Municipality of Kincardine is looking to complete a review on its crosswalks to ensure accessibility in the community. During council’s April 10th meeting, they directed staff for the review to find how to provide accessible crosswalks within the municipality while adhering to the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA), as well as the Facility Accessibility Design Standards from the city of London....

OPP Provides Update with Canadian Troops Coming to North Huron

Huron County OPP have provided some more information with the military coming to North Huron next month. Police say they’ll be working alongside members of the Canadian Armed Forces during an exercise in the county from May 3rd-5th. The exercise dubbed “Trillium Venture” the 31 Canadian Brigade Group will be conducting training in Huron and Bruce Counties to enhance interoperability with other governmental departments and work to respond to a simulated extreme heat scenario....

Saugeen Shores & Kincardine Could Revive Physician Recruitment Partnership

Saugeen Shores and Kincardine are looking at a partnership to keep their hospital ERs open and ensure there are family doctors for all residents, and also they’re hoping Bruce Power will help fund it. A Saugeen Shores staff report says a previous partnership dissolved in 2020 and since then, Saugeen Shores has been working to reestablish the partnership with Kincardine....

Home Sales Up Across the Region in March

The price of a home saw a drop over the last month according to numbers from the Huron-Perth Association of Realtors. Homes sold last month was 139 units, up slightly by two sales from March 2023. On a year to date basis home sales totaled 363 units over the first three months of the year, an increase of 15.6 per cent from the same time last year....

Saugeen Shores Wants Community Input On Cultural Heritage Master Plan

Saugeen Shores wants community input as it develops a Cultural Heritage Master Plan. The Town says the plan will identify cultural heritage resources in the community and make recommendations for their preservation. According to the province, heritage resources include artifacts or museum collections, buildings or structures, historic streetscapes, parks, trails or archaeological sites among other things. The Town’s process will include a review of existing protected sites....
